Your Client is About to Renovate - What Should You Do with the "Old" Window Treatments?

Part of getting your client's apartment renovation off to the right start is arranging for the window treatments to be removed, or if motorized, properly protected before the renovation work begins.

Don't Leave Protecting Your High End Drapery to Your Building Contractor

A duplex in Chelsea greeted us with this disheartening sight. The contractors thought they had "protected" the 22' high drapery panels in the great room from the construction dust, plaster, and paint, when in fact they only managed to worsen things as is clear from the photos below.

The 10' high panels from the other rooms were removed from the windows, stuffed into garbage bags, and heaped in a pile in the owner's basement storage unit. This very wide, heavily lined blackout ripple fold panel looked like a mangled mess when we inspected it at our workroom. The worker responsible for this may have been great at what he was hired for but clearly had no clue on how to handle this very expensive custom drapery.

NY Drapery Care and Your Next Renovation Project

All of this could have easily been avoided had the drapery been professionally removed before the contractors started.

If we are brought to a job before the construction work starts, we can tag each drapery panel with its room and window location and properly fold and transport it back to our workroom.

The next time a project you plan incorporates existing window treatments, remember to have them removed, ideally right after the movers have emptied the apartment but before the messy work starts.

Our service was designed to assist you with removal, cleaning, storage, all the way through dressing the windows once the apartment has been cleaned and the furniture is about ready to be delivered back. It is always best to schedule the drapery removal and return for different days than the movers.

Please be in touch as you plan your next renovation project. I am certain your other contractors will be more than happy to not have to deal with the window treatments!
