Hand-Cleaning Your Hunter Douglas Shades

Cleaning your Hunter Douglas shades can save you approximately 85% of the cost of replacing them.

No kidding.

If you own or have purchased a home whose windows are dressed with Hunter Douglas shades, you can save several thousand dollars by having them professionally cleaned rather than replaced. Even heavily soiled shades can clean up beautifully if the right techniques are used.

Hand-Cleaning Your Hunter Douglas Shades

At NY Drapery Care we clean our customer’s Hunter Douglas Silhouettes, Duettes, Luminettes, and non-motorized Designer Roller Shades at our workroom rather than in our customers’ Manhattan and Southern Westchester homes.

Many Hunter Douglas products, with the exception of shades with room darkening fabrics, can be immersed.  Immersion is one part of a multi-step process we use to ensure the fabric comes out as clean and bright as possible.

Hunter Douglas Shades Maintenance & Care

NY Drapery Care has cleaned thousands of Hunter Douglas Silhouette, Duette, Luminette, and Designer Roller shades in our workroom over the past 17 years. We have learned from experience that as long as Hunter Douglas shades are periodically cleaned, they can easily look beautiful for 15 to 20 years.

Ideally we recommend that our Manhattan customers clean their window treatments every 2 years to stay ahead of the soot that builds up on the fabric (no matter if the windows are rarely, if ever, opened). While homes in the suburbs usually don’t have the same black soot build-up, they do collect plenty of dust, airborne allergens, pet dander, and often become a last resting place for little bugs!

With the cost of cleaning a Hunter Douglas window treatment averaging only about 15% of the cost of replacing it, it always pays to clean unless it is determined that the shade is damaged or is not a good candidate for cleaning.

We strongly recommend that you have your window treatments removed prior to other contractors starting their jobs

Painters and flooring contractors will be delighted not to have to worry about the shades and even more importantly you won’t have to worry that they might get damaged.

We’ve seen too many avoidable situations happen where a painter accidentally swiped a Silhouette with a brush or a flooring contractor tied a Luminette into a knot to get it off the floor.

What People Are Saying

“Under promise and over deliver. Chuck was responsive and honest. We had 6 Hunter Douglas blinds that were very dirty because our windows were very drafty and allowed a lot of dirt in. He picked them up and had them cleaned and re-installed within a week and they were clean. Saved us a lot of money versus replacing them. Thank you.”
