If you purchased your Silhouettes™ years ago, or recently bought an apartment that came with Silhouettes already installed, you are in for some good news.
Over the years we have developed a process that yields consistently excellent cleaning results, even if your Silhouettes™ haven’t been cleaned in many years and are coated in soot and dust.
Where will you clean my Silhouettes?
NY Drapery Care will remove your Silhouette shades for cleaning in our workroom. If you like, we will install temporary shades in those windows where maintaining privacy is a must while your shades are out being cleaned.
Once the Silhouettes are back in our workroom we will use specially designed cleaning tables and tubs that permit us to safely and thoroughly clean and rinse the fabrics far better than any service that offers to clean your Silhouettes while they are hanging in your window. While onsite cleaning offers the convenience of not removing the Silhouettes™ it just can’t compare with the quality achieved by doing the job in our workroom.
How well will my Silhouette shades clean?
More often than not, Silhouettes clean up incredibly well and often come out looking virtually new.
The first step to Silhouette™ cleaning involves inspection to determine the type of fabric being cleaned as well as to identify any possible issues either with the fabric or with the mechanism that raises and lowers the shade.
Once the Silhouette™ has been inspected we can tell what the best method of cleaning will be, either wet cleaning, using a water-based process, or dry cleaning. Wet cleaning is used for most Silhouette™ fabrics other than those that have a “room darkening” feature which is often sold for use in bedrooms where more light control is required.
Room darkening fabrics are manufactured by laminating 2 fabrics together to create a more opaque fabric. The glues that are used are water soluble so it is imperative that the fabric is not saturated in water during cleaning otherwise the fabrics will separate and the Silhouette™ will be permanently damaged (never ultrasonically clean room darkening Silhouettes™).
